Syncrude taps Jacobs Engineering for more sweet blend

Engineering and Mining Journal, Mar 2003

Syncrude Canada has asked Jacobs Engineering to help with the $5 billion upgrader expansion at its oil sands operations near Fort McMurray, Alberta. The construction contract will include building and refurbishing several plants, involving the piperack, which constitutes the central artery of the complex.

The upgrader expansion will increase capacity of Syncrude's sweet blend to 370,000 barrels/day by 2005. Construction on the upgrader expansion began late last year. Syncrude, which is owned by a consortium of nine partners, also began construction of the Aurora 2 mining project, which will supply oil sands to the expanded upgrader.

Jacobs, which has been active in Canada's oil sands region for more than 25 years, also signed another contract for work, for an undisclosed amount, at Suncor's nearby facility.
