GE ships its first Frame 5-2E machine

Turbomachinery International, Jul/Aug 2007

The first commercial MS5002E (Frame 5-2E) gas turbine manufactured by GE Oil & Gas was shipped this week for installation at a fertilizer plant in the Netherlands. The Frame 5-2E is the newest member of GE's fleet of Frame 5 gas turbines, which has compiled more than 16 million hours of service worldwide. The Frame 5-2E is a two-shaft machine with 36% efficiency in mechanical drive operation and 35% in generator drive operation. NOx is guaranteed at 18 ppm.

Purchased by the Dutch fertilizer manufacturer Yara Sluiskil B.V., the 5-2E will replace another existing gas turbine at the company's plant in Sluiskil, Netherlands. Operating in a cogeneration mode, the new gas turbine will produce 30 MW of power and 50 tons-perhour of steam. Commercial operation at the site is scheduled for the end of October 2007.
