Siemens will build cogeneration plants in Singapore

Turbomachinery International, Sep/Oct 2007

A consortium led by Siemens Power Generation has secured an order from Singapore for construction of a cogeneration combined cycle plant. Siemens together with its consortium partner Samsung Corporation will build the twin-unit power plant with an output of around 800 MW on Pulau Seraya Power Station on Jurong Island in southwest Singapore. In addition to two SGT5-4000F gas turbines, Siemens will supply two steam turbines and two hydrogen-cooled generators, the heat-recovery steam generators (HRSG), and the electrical and SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control equipment.

The cogeneration plant will have an energy utilization factor of over 80%. While the plant will feed power into the public grid, steam will be supplied to an adjacent refinery operated by Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore Private Ltd. PowerSeraya meets around 30% of the island nation's power needs.

In 2002, Siemens, together with Samsung, built two combined cycle plants, each rated at 370 MW at the same site. These two existing units will also be converted to cogeneration.
