Siemens bags wind turbine orders for over $1 billion

Turbomachinery International, Mar/Apr 2008

Siemens Energy will supply wind turbines of a total capacity of 325 MW to Portland, Oregon, in the U.S. Some 141 units of Siemens' 2.3 MW turbines will be installed in the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Phases 2 and 3 in Sherman County in Oregon. The purchaser is Portland General Electric Company (PGE), a utility that serves more than 804,000 customers in Oregon. Another order for 130 wind turbines would produce nearly 300 MW in Washington State. The combined value of the two orders totals more than $1.1 billion.

The Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Phases 2 is scheduled to be operational in late 2009, and Phase 3 is expected to be on line in late 2010. The Siemens scope of supply consists of delivery, installation and commissioning of the turbines, with a five-year warranty and separate service and maintenance agreement.
