Healthy progress
Financial Management, Apr 2008
CIMA has formed a development partnership with the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) aimed at promoting and implementing the CIMA Strategic Scorecard in the National Health Service. The initiative is intended to help NHS boards focus more on strategic matters at a time when compliance issues and government programmes are demanding increasing amounts of their time.
"Effective strategy is key to success, and a board's primary focus should be to create value - in this case, to benefit patients and other vital stakeholders in the NHS," said Charles Tilley, CIMA's chief executive. "The CIMA Strategic Scorecard provides a process for all aspects of strategy to be discussed, reviewed and monitored by boards. It can be adapted easily to suit any organisational structure."

Mark Knight, chief executive at the HFMA, said that his organisation was delighted to enter the partnership. "Boards need to concentrate their efforts on the strategic issues that affect their organisations," he said. "This programme offers them a format to enable them to do that in a structured and focused way."
Activities to promote the partnership will take place throughout this year.
