Toyota completes expansion in Brazil

Area Development Site and Facility Planning, Sep 2002

TOYOTA MOTOR Corp. recently announced the completion of a major expansion at the Indaiatuba Plant of Toyota do Brasil Ltda. (TDB), located in the state of Sao Paulo.

The plant has been building Corollas since 1998, but has increased annual production capacity from 15,000 to 57,000 units. It began production of the ninth-generation of Corollas in May.

The expansion at Indaiatuba represents an investment by Toyota of $300 million. The project will increase the plant's floor space from 29,000 to 69,000 square meters and will create up to 1,000 new jobs.

The Indaiatuba-made Corolla will be sold in Brazil and exported to more than 20 countries in an effort to establish TDB as an export base for Toyota in Latin America.
