ProLogis-Unilever agreement in Poland
Area Development Site and Facility Planning, Aug 2003
PROLOGIS, A LEADING global provider of distribution facilities and services, recently announced that it has signed an agreement with Unilever, one of the world's largest consumer-products companies, for a build-to-suit, centralized distribution center in ProLogis Park Piotrkow, in Poland. This marks the first international agreement between the two companies, and Unilever will use the facility for the distribution of assorted culinary, beverage, and personal-care products.
The park is located in central Poland, approximately 130 kilometers south of Warsaw. The facility will be constructed in two phases: the first phase of 226,871 square feet is scheduled for completion in December 2003; and the second phase, 215,278 square feet, is expected to be fully operational in April 2004.
"Unilever needed a way to centralize Central European operations and, in turn, improve and consolidate its logistics operations to realize increased efficiency and savings in facility costs," said Martin Whitcombe, logistics manager for Unilever Polska S.A. "As we've had tremendous success with ProLogis on these fronts in the past, it was a natural extension of our relationship to work with the company in Poland."
