Metal-plated carbon fibres from Electro Fibers Technologies

ELECTRO FIBER TECHNOLOGIES (EFT) LLC has commercialized its patented, metal-plated carbon fibre products intended for use in aerospace, defence, automotive, construction, medical and electronics applications.

The company says its manufacturing facility, located in Stratford Connecticut, has completed a year of product development and certification, working with its parent companies and industrial customers. To date, products manufactured have primarily been carbon fibre tow plated with copper and nickel for a variety of aerospace and electronic fabrication applications. EFT has also successfully completed commercial evaluations evaluating different base fibres and metallic coatings.

Electro Fiber Technologies LLC is an operating Division ofTechnical Fibre Products (TFP) and is a wholly owned subsidiary of James Cropper pic, Vice President of Technical Fibre Products for the Americas John Haaland said "We are now in position to support the growing demand for speciality metal-coated fibres and to enter into strategic supplier and technology relationships. Our process produces high quality, plated fibre that can be tailored for a full array of applications, whether in the form of nonwoven veil/mat, woven fabric, continuous tow or chopped fibre."

James Cropper is a specialist paper manufacturer founded in 1845, now employing some 500 people, operating in four divisions and selling products worldwide.

TFP manufactures nonwoven veils and mats for industrial markets from synthetic or mineral fibres such as carbon, aramid, ceramic and glass. TFP has manufacturing accredited to such international standards as ISO 9001 and EN ISO 1400. TFP has headquarters in Cumbria, UK, and a subsidiary in Newburgh, New York, USA, serving North and South America. TFP's customers supply finished goods for end uses as diverse as sporting goods and aerospace.
