TCU Ranch Program Honors TSCRA, Scharbauer

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association received the 2005 Western Heritage Award presented by Heartland Alliance of America in partnership with Farm and Ranch Healthcare and Texas Christian University. The award "honors the contributions of your association toward the preservation and representation of the Western heritage of Fort Worth and surrounding areas." TSCRA Director Chris Scharbauer was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the renowned Texas Christian University Ranch Management Program.

The awards were presented during halftime ceremonies at the TCU football game Nov. 12. The TCU Ranch Management Program, now in its 50th year, trains young people to manage ranch resources in an ecologically responsible and economically sustainable manner. Scharbauer, 52, is a graduate of the class of 1973. He is now responsible for family ranch operations in Texas and New Mexico and is president and owner of Scharbauer Cattle Co. and Five S. Ranch in Amarillo. His son John is a graduate of the 2004 Ranch Management class. Friends and family who joined Chris at the award ceremony are, from left, daughter Audra, wife La Vonne, Chris, daughters Rachelle, Meghan and Christen, Steven Steen, Amy Bryant and son John.
