He was born May 17, 1934, on a ranch near Evant, Texas, in Hamilton County. He represents the fourth generation of his family to have a career in ranching.
He attended Texas A&M University and married Wynona Joan Barnett on Dec. 10, 1955. In 1958 he purchased the C Bar Ranch near Goldthwaite, where he resided until his death.
In 1959, Winters and his father purchased the Lampasas Livestock Auction, which they operated, along with several other Central Texas auctions, until 1975.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Molly Earl Winters and Maggy Katherine Jones, both of Goldthwaite; a brother, David W. Winters of Del Rio, Texas; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
