Dr. Robert Gulley has been hired by the Texas A&M Institute of Renewable Natural Resources as the new program manager for Texas Cooperative Extension.

Gulley's primary responsibility will be facilitating activities for the Edwards Aquifer Recovery Implementation Program, said Dr. Bob Shaw of College Station, associate director of the institute.

The aquifer recovery program is a cooperative effort between Extension and various Edwards Aquifer stakeholders represented by a 21-member steering committee named by the Texas Legislature, Shaw said.

Dr. Elsa Murano was named the 23rd president of Texas A&M University Jan. 3 by the Texas A&M University System's board of regents. She was selected as the sole finalist for the position at the December 2007 board of regents meeting.

Murano is both the first Hispanic-American and first woman to be named president of Texas A&M University, as she was when she was previously named the vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M in 2005. Prior to that, she was the first Hispanic-American to serve as undersecretary for food safety at the United States Department of Agriculture, a position she held from 2001-2004.
