Drucilla "Drucie" Spain Scaling, 71, died July 15, 2008.

Drucie graduated from Wichita Falls High School and attended Southern Methodist University. She married Wilson Scaling in 1973.

In Wichita Falls she was active in her family's business, Flowers by Spain, until moving to Washington, D.C. with her husband when he joined USDA in 1985.

In recognition of her "extraordinary leadership and innovation" in USDA's National Earth Team effort, she received the organization's Honor Award in 1989.

After volunteering for the election team of Vice President George H.W. Bush, she was recruited for the executive assistant to the director of speech writing position in the office of the President.

Once back in Texas, she became the office manager for the Wichita Falls office of Congressman Mac Thornberry from 1994 until her retirement in 1998.

She is survived by her husband, Wilson; her sons, Glen Swarts Jr. and wife, Janice; Lee Swarts and wife, Becky; and two granddaughters.
