Canadian Officials Execute Largest Ever Piracy Raid

International Musician,  Apr 2008

Last month, police raided an alleged music piracy operation in Winnipeg, Manitoba, resulting in what Canadian music industry representatives are calling the largest-ever counterfeit bust in Canadian history. According to the Canadian Recording Industry Association, a firm called Audiomaxx was raided by officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who seized items that included more than 200,000 music CDs and DVDs, as well as movie DVDs and hundreds of thousands of blank discs. It is estimated that the operation was able to produce as many as 11,500 CDs per day.

Four people involved with Audiomaxx were arrested, and further investigation is pending. Graham Henderson, president of the Canadian Recording Industry Association, thanked the authorities for their efforts and said that the arrests sent a clear message that music counterfeiting will not be tolerated.
