Glass The Frank And Walters (Setanta) HHH

Despite the novelty monicker which, alongside their previous incarnation as a whimsical pop act in the early 1990s, hangs round their necks like a millstone, this fourth album from County Cork's The Frank And Walters is a surprisingly touching affair. Having given Radiohead their first support slot and Liam Gallagher a job as a roadie, they are (unlike the Murphy's) very bitter indeed - but they've channelled their energy into melancholic electronica with guitars and vocals rather than punk rock fury. With a hip list of collaborators in tow (Depeche Mode/U2 producer Flood and High Llama Sean O'Hagan remixed recent singles) they sound here like a world- weary Human League. Which, let's face it, can be no bad thing.
