Pacific Quay's just 'dome sweet dome' for the BBC

January: Miller Developments make a last-minute bid for the Millennium Dome and reassembles it on Glasgow's Pacific Quay site for the new BBC Scotland HQ and film studios. BBC Scotland management play hard to get until an all-weather replacement for Hampden Park is also included.

February: With the merger of Abbey National and Bank of Scotland, a leisure company is set up to use the surplus branches as coffee shops and aromatherapy salons.

March: Due to shortage of office space in Edinburgh the upper circle of the Usher Hall is converted into incubator units for small businesses.

April: Forth Ports unveils first of the Britannia serviced office suites, tastefully created by Conran in the engine room of the Royal Yacht.

June: Railtrack unveils phase 1 of a long-awaited shopping centre over Waverley Station. Phase 2 will extend it to Linlithgow and Falkirk High. Phase 3 will complete Scotland's largest (and longest) retail mall by extending it to Croy, Bishopbriggs and Glasgow Queen Street.

July: After losing its appeal on the Princes Street Galleries scheme, EDI Ltd submit a planning application to refurbish "Edinburgh's Disgrace" and add 12 missing columns as part of the New Deal work programme.

September: Kenmore Properties buy Meadowside granaries for #2 million at auction. Reclad in Teflon, they become loft apartments to die for and sell at #500,000 a piece.

December: German owners of the St Enoch Centre buy up all leases and decide to create a stunning new development under the glass roof. They go for a much-needed five-star hotel, to be known as the St Enoch Hotel.
