Adam Smith The Scot is to feature on GBP20 bank notes coming into circulation in the spring, replacing Elgar who has been the "face" since 1999.
But next year brings the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth and a campaign has been launched to keep Smith off the GBP20 until afterwards.
British Gas, the UK's most expensive fuel provider, was also last week named as the worst for customer service.
Complaints against British Gas have soared by 148-per cent in a year, according to a report by Energywatch.
