BOXING: Anderson in line for Euro title shot
Sunday Herald, The, May 13, 2007
TOMMY Gilmour has targeted a European title shot for Kevin Anderson after the Fifer defended his British welterweight crown in impressive style against Eamonn Magee at Motherwell Civic Centre.
The 24-year-old bounced back from losing his Commonwealth title against Ali Nuumbembe in Kirkcaldy in February with arguably the best fight of his career on Friday against the 35-year-old Belfast boxer.
Gilmour will now try and match his fighter with Jackson Osei Bonsu in September or October and he said: "The next thing for Kevin is a shot at the European title. I will see Frank Maloney and try and fix up a fight with Bonsu, hopefully in the Kirkcaldy Ice Arena."
Maloney has expressed his interest in the contest and said yesterday:
"Yes, I would be interested in bringing Bonsu to Scotland to fight for the European title if the money is right.
"I'm not worried about taking Bonsu to Kirkcaldy because he would knock Anderson out."
