Politics festival winds up with Holyrood open day

Sunday Herald, The,  Aug 26, 2007

THE Festival of Politics in Edinburgh ends today with an open day at the Scottish parliament.

Hundreds are expected to visit Holyrood's debating chamber and form dummy committees and meetings in a bid to get young people excited about the political process.

Yesterday, festival discussions featured journalist and broadcaster Kate Adie explaining how she came to report from some of the world's most dangerous places, while Harry Benson, the internationally acclaimed photojournalist, spoke on the impact of modern technology on his profession.

Open Parliament Day also marks the close of the World Press Photo show, one of the world's biggest photojournalism exhibitions. Pictures of the past year's most dramatic events have drawn more than 30,000 visitors this month.
