QUICK GETAWAY

Sunday Herald, The,  Apr 20, 2008  by Damian Shields

GRASSPOINT COTTAGE, ISLE OF MULL EVERY morning we were up with the lark, hungry to engage with nature. An old drover's dwelling perched on the coastal perimeter of the 4500-acre Auchnacraig estate, Grasspoint Cottage commands a view across the Firth of Lorne and the sound of Mull to the Nevis Range, Mamores, Glencoe and beyond. The landscape s a photographer's paradise, and if you get lucky you can snap red deer, porpoises, otters and sea eagles.

Inside, the self-catering cottage is a cosy one-room living space with an ample double bed, wood and coal-burning stove and the usual facilities - but bring your own linen.

Stock up on essentials from the nearby mini-market 15 minutes' drive away in Craignure. From watching the sun submerge between the arms of Calgary Bay to stargazing from the cottage doorstep before retiring to the heat of a peat fire with a dram, it will be a visit long reminisced upon.

Grasspoint Cottage can be rented for GBP250-GBP395 per week.
