SERVICES group Rentokil Initial reported interim profits down by more than half. The pest control and hygiene services firm, which has issued four profit warnings in eight months, said that underlying profits for the first half of the year fell 55per cent to GBP39.3 million. Chief executive Alan Brown said the group, which also owns the City Link courier business, had made strides in customer service over the past four months but accepted that the future remained challenging in the current economic climate.

Shares closed at 69.25p.
