Sir: The British pig industry maintains that pigs in Britain now enjoy a much higher standard of welfare than their unfortunate foreign counterparts. I believed this, bought only British pork and was happy to pay the premium. The alleged conditions reported at the pig holding centre at Heddon-on-the-Wall appear to make a mockery of my trust.
