Postal union threatens wave of strikes
Independent, The (London), Apr 25, 2002
BRITAIN'S POSTAL service was threatened with a wave of strikes yesterday. The Communication Workers Union warned of a national pay strike on 8 May and a series of stoppages to demand the reinstatement of two brothers who won cases for unfair dismissal. Management at Consignia, which was holding talks with the union last night, has offered a package of 6.9 per cent over two years.
John Keggie, for the union, said staff were being asked to agree "massive changes" in working conditions. A walkout was threatened in London "within a month" to support Mick and Tom Doherty, who were sacked for alleged involvement in football hooliganism.
