Event: V&A garden party

Independent, The (London),  May 22, 2004  by Jackie Hunter

Getting soil under your fingernails is one of the less appealing aspects of gardening, especially when there are parties to scrub up for. On Friday, you can combine your love of verdant things with one of the summer's hottest public events, the V&A Garden Party. Celebrating the launch of The Other Garden Show, an installation exhibition of 10 garden sheds designed by the likes of Tracey Emin, the event will turn the museum into a floral haven, blooming with live happenings and displays on a horticultural theme. Make paper flowers at the origami bar while lounge DJ Mike Flowers spins green- fingered grooves, or join in a project to create a floral dress. Art- lovers can join curators on garden-themed tours of the V&A's exhibits. More of the V&A's Friday Late events will take place on the last weekend of each month.

Victoria & Albert Museum, Cromwell Rd, London SW7 (020-7942 2000; www.vam.ac.uk/fridaylate) Fri, 6.30pm-10pm, free
