Grand Theft Auto IV Format PS3, Xbox 360, Rockstar, 49.99

Packed with crime, grime and curses, Grand Theft Auto IV is an unashamedly adult title that is every bit as compelling as the past three instalments of the mega-selling series. Newcomer Nico has to make a life for himself in an unforgiving US metropolis, which is where gamers come in, making the decisions that will shape the game. With a massive open world to play with, this title is awe-inspiring in its scale and imagination. Moral guardians might loathe the dog- eat-dog vibe, but for consenting adults, gaming doesn't get any better than this. *****

The best thing about Buzz! (right) is the cute, chunky controllers that enable quiz fans to play the faster-finger-first rounds, which make the game so fun. Unfortunately, since the buzzers are resolutely last-gen, they come trailing wires, the untangling of which each time you play is deeply tedious. So is the latest title worth the endless unravelling? Yes, if you like your pop cheesy. With 5,000 questions, this will keep fans entertained until the PS3 wi-fi version finally appears. ***

High School Musical: Work This Out DS, Disney, 29.99

Like a clean-cut Grease for the Noughties, High School Musical brings teenage girls together like nothing else. Work This Out won't be converting any haters of the TV series, but acolytes will enjoy the endless mini-games that are accompanied by the official soundtrack. Dull. *

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney DS, Capcom, 29.99

The fourth Ace Attorney title takes heed of the adage that if something isn't broken, fixing it is altogether unnecessary. That's not to say there haven't been a few tweaks, particularly in the graphics department, but the courtroom-based drama offers more of the same. It has tons of neat ideas that are often woefully underused - fingerprinting features just twice - but the cut-throat world of modern justice is nicely realised and there are plenty of twists to keep gamers engaged. ****
