T-Mobile and Nokia link up to speed mobile internet services

Independent, The (London),  May 3, 2008

Business News IN BRIEF

*T-Mobile and Nokia have teamed up to speed up the availability of mobile internet services across Europe and boost the take-up of phone-based social networking sites. The terms of the collaboration agreement refer to T-Mobile's web'n'walk services and Nokia's Ovi music download and photo-sharing platform, due to be launched this year. It also includes plans to develop the MyFaves social network service and customisable "widgets", which offer mobile phone users shortcuts to specific internet services such as maps. The agreement is the latest in a series of arrangements between different players in the mobile internet market. Vodafone has tie-ups with Google for its mobile search capability and its mapping service, and an agreement with Yahoo for mobile advertising. Similarly, T-Mobile opted for Google as its default mobile home page in 2005, before shifting to Yahoo in February. Yahoo also has the exclusive rights to place advertising through the web'n'walk service.
