WORLD MARKETS

Stocks tumbled on concerns about inflation and higher interest rates as oil jumped to a record above $123 a barrel. Investors sold off shares of banks, housebuilders and companies dependent on consumer spending. The Dow closed down 206.48, or 1.59 per cent, at 12,814.35. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq each slipped 1.81 per cent.
