WORLD MARKETS

Shares sank on profit-taking and renewed fears over inflation in line with soaring global oil prices. The Nikkei index dropped 159.22 points, or 1.1 per cent, to 13,943.26. Traders were jittery as oil prices jumped to a record near $124 a barrel and after heavy losses on Wall Street. Among the losers were the Mitsubishi and Mizuho financial groups and Toyota.
