Halifax increased the rate on its web-saver extra account yesterday, and will now pay customers a gross rate of equivalent to 6.35 per cent until 18 July, after which the rate will drop back to 6 per cent. MBNA has teamed up with Miles & More, Europe's largest frequent flyer programme, to launch a new American Express credit card. Customers will earn three airmiles for every 1 spent on the card during the first six months, and two miles for every 1 spent thereafter. In addition, new cardholders will receive a bonus 6,000 miles and will pay 0 per cent interest on their purchases for the first three months. *ONE TO AVOID

Lloyds TSB's new Airmiles mortgage is probably not worth considering unless you're looking for a relatively small home loan. Although it's three-year fixed rate is competitive, there are better deals out there - and the 7,800 miles that you'll earn are only worth around 300 or 400. Although they'll buy you a return trip to Hong Kong or Delhi, remember that you'll still have to pay the taxes.
