Shares ended a five-day losing streak to close up 0.7 per cent, with heavyweight Reliance Industries - up 1.1 per cent - leading the gains. The BSE index closed 123.8 higher at 16,860.9. Drugmaker Ranbaxy surged 5.3 per cent. The company said it will collaborate with US-based Merck for drug discovery and clinical development for new anti-infective products.
