WORLD MARKETS

Shares ended higher as tame US inflation data eased worries that the Federal Reserve might have to raise interest rates to keep inflation at bay, while mining stocks rose on fresh merger talk. Airbus parent EADS rose 5.9 per cent after reporting stronger quarterly profits than expected. BNP Paribas gained 5 per cent after its results beat most expectations.
