Borsa Italiana suspends Alitalia trading
Independent, The (London), Jun 5, 2008
Business News IN BRIEF
*Borsa Italiana, the Italian stock exchange, yesterday suspended trading in the shares of Alitalia after the government passed a new law that effectively enables it to find a buyer without keeping the market updated on the state of the talks. Alitalia had been expected to be taken over by Air France earlier this year, only for a deal to collapse following talks with unions. The European Union has subsequently ruled that government loans to the airline contravene state aid laws, adding to the pressure on Silvio Berlusconi's administration to find a buyer.
