WORLD MARKETS

Sliding oil prices lifted stocks, while the Federal Reserve held its key interest rate steady and reduced expectations for a rate rise at its next meeting. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq rose more than the Dow, which was little changed, edging up 0.04 per cent to 11,811.83. The S&P 500 rose 0.58 per cent; the Nasdaq gained 1.39 per cent.
