Lord Currie to step down as Ofcom chairman next year

*Lord Currie, chairman of the communications regulator Ofcom, is to step down in 2009. Lord Currie, formerly professor of economics at the London Business School, and a cross-bench peer in the House of Lords, was the first chairman of the watchdog when it was established in 2003, and has served two full terms. He will leave the post after Easter next year. "I continue to enjoy working with such distinguished colleagues, and I am delighted that we have been able to arrange an orderly succession process," he said. The role will be advertised from September, and a successor appointed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department forBusiness, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. Meanwhile Stuart McIntosh and Peter Phillips are to become executive board members, and Philip Graf has been reappointed as deputy chairman.
