BBC taxi bill has risen to Pounds 13.8m

*The BBC's taxi bill for taking guests to and from programmes rose by 2m last year. The Corporation spent 5.3m on driving contributors and guests in the last financial year, up from 3.3m. In total, the taxi bill for the BBC rose to 13.8m from April 2007 to March 2008, up from 13m. The bill is the equivalent of licence-fee payments from 100,000 people. The total includes 4m on taxis to take staff from home to work on early and late shifts and 4.5m for staff on routine BBC business. Daytime staff no longer get free taxis.
