BOX OFFICE: THE LOWDOWN

Independent on Sunday, The,  Apr 11, 2004

1 Vanilla Ice The original white rapper took the charts by storm with "Ice, Ice, Baby" in 1990. Then we found out he wasn't a gangster. And that his real name was Robert Van Winkle. He now runs a motorcycle shop in Miami.

2 MC Hammer "U Can't Touch This" earned Stanley "Hammer" Burrell an estimated $30m in 1990. Six years later, the man who, according to Bill Hicks, "danced like he had a sand crab in his pants", was $13.7m in the red. He is now an evangelist.

3 Skee-Lo "I Wish" was a hit in 1995. Skee-Lo wished he "had a rabbit in a hat with a bat". These days, he's probably wishing for a lot more. 4 The Sugar Hill Gang "I said a hip-hop da hippy, da hippy/ To da hip hip-hop and you don't stop the rock." "Rapper's Delight" was a classic, but that was about it. Visit www.grayace.com/dex/ bunny.html for a seasonal version...

5 Afroman In "Cos I Got High", he implied that some hip-hop artists partake in the green stuff. He planned a follow-up but never released it: rumour has it that - you guessed it - he was too busy getting high.
