Fashion: Hang loose
Independent on Sunday, The, Jan 1, 2006 by Susie Rushton
Is there any such thing as a frumpy jumper these days? Apparently not. John Galliano opened his Edie Sedgwick-inspired winter show for Dior with artfully-distressed black-and-white striped mohair sweater dresses; outsized sweaters also make casual, cosy dresses at Stella McCartney. The high street, of course, has followed their lead, making this winter a bonanza season for investing in serious woollens, whether they be figure-hugging dresses or cardigans so enormous they can do double-duty as coats. Chunky knits were never so glamorous. And, chances are, the giant jumper won't have lost its cachet by next winter, making it one of the few fashion items that could be worth seeking out in the sales.
