THE BEST OF WEEKS

Independent on Sunday, The,  Feb 25, 2007  by Katy Guest

Margaret Thatcher

Baroness T has been immortalised in bronze in a statue unveiled at the Commons last week. She would have preferred iron, but approved of the [pound]80,000, 71-stone likeness. She ought to be satisfied if this one doesn't get its head chopped off, as did the Guildhall's marble Thatcher in 2002.

Kate Moss

The model's Topshop range, due out on 1 May, has the longest waiting list in history. "Kate is really excited about the thought of everyone in Britain dressing like her," says a source. Let's hope they don't try acting like her too - there aren't enough junkie boyfriends to go around.

Catherine Sanderson

Ms Sanderson, aka La Petite Anglaise, had the worst of weeks last year when she was sacked after her French accountancy firm discovered her online blog. Now the blog has won her a six-figure, two-book deal, and everyone will read about the dumb accountants. Tant pis.

Marco Pierre White

The fiery chef who has been unveiled as the new host of Hell's Kitchen, says he disapproves of other chefs for "shouting at people". He went on to slate Jamie Oliver and said that he doesn't want Gordon Ramsay in his life. But at least he said it quietly.

Kerry Katona

Kerry has given birth to a baby girl six weeks early, and only one week after marrying Mark Croft, on Valentine's Day. Her new husband can stop celebrating, though. "It's been the worst pregnancy ever," she said. "I want to go on the Pill and get Mark the snip."

John Prescott

As he hides behind the sofa in time for the TV drama Confessions of a Diary Secretary, some good news: his department is to get an extra [pound]600,000 a year from the taxpayer. A spokesman said it was merely a "technical accounting change". How do we hire their accountants?
