Mischa Barton's suncare tips
Independent on Sunday, The, Jun 3, 2007 by HERMIONE EYRE
First came the Rat Pack, then the Brat Pack - and now we have the Flat Pack. Their name refers not simply to their slenderness but also to the ease with which they are transported about the globe.
Mischa Barton, the gorgeous actress foremost among this group, is as at home in Maui as she is in Cannes, but anywhere she goes she will slathering on factor 25. As the face of the Institute of Cancer Research's sun-awareness campaign, Mischa gives us her four top tips for good beach practice: "Even on a cloudy day, I always use Superdrug Solait SPF 25." The superstar on La Croisette covered in Dior cream? Must have been someone else. Next, she recommends a hat. "I've just got a new straw fedora that I've been wearing to death." Might her dog Ziggy have had anything to do with its demise? "And I always wear huge sunglasses - which protect the delicate skin around the eyes." Spoken like a true Flat Packer - Flatties are dressed by stylist Rachel Zoe, whose trademark is outsize sunnies. And on the beach, well: "When I'm not reading scripts I love to relax with a book, John Steinbeck is my favourite author."
Perhaps these stars are more like us than we imagine - losing paperbacks in the sand and covering themselves with high-street suncream... Only we come home with a red patch where we forgot to factor up; Mischa returns radiant, having aided a good cause.
