:: middle eastIraq to send crude oil for refining in Iran
Independent on Sunday, The, Aug 12, 2007
Iran and Iraq are to sign a deal within days to build a pipeline that will transfer crude oil to refineries in Iran from southern Iraqi oilfields, according to Iranian officials. The announcement came during a two-day visit to Tehran by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to discuss security and bilateral relations between the former enemies.
The Iraqi parliament plans to open international bidding for a third of the country's oilfields as early as next month, apparently thwarting Russian hopes of reviving a Saddam-era deal. NL
