UN on target to reduce global child mortality

The UN believes it may be on target to achieve its goal, set in 1990, to reduce child deaths by two-thirds by 2015. Figures published last week showed world child mortality fell below 10 million a year for the first time. A project in 60 priority countries focuses on strengthening health management, improving availability of care and increasing funding. But a study by 'The Lancet' has shown that funding is being misdirected, with only 68 per cent going to the countries that account for 94 per cent of child deaths. KD
