British rowers rescued after boat capsizes
Independent on Sunday, The, Jun 15, 2008
:: ATLANTIC CROSSING
Four British rowers were rescued after their boat capsized as they attempted to cross the Atlantic for charity. Chris Jenkins, 43, Tim Garrent, 26, Wayne Davey, 30, and Joby Newton, 19, were two weeks and 650 miles into their journey from New York to their native Isles of Scilly when their craft tipped over in heavy seas east of Cape Cod. The rowers alerted Falmouth Coastguard via satellite phone, and the US Coast Guard then co-ordinated a search for the boat with the help of a Hercules aircraft. The four rowers, who call themselves the "Scilly Boys", were picked up by a merchant ship diverted to the rescue scene. The four were said to be well but suffering from mild hypothermia.
