Best gigs

TODAY

911, Arena, Wembley. Scotland's finest wee laddies are on their way to Wembley and the lassies' knees are going all trembly. But it's no whistles in the arena, girls, if you please.

MONDAY

LO-FIDELITY ALL STARS, Lomax, Liverpool. My mate John reckons these boys are even better live than The Verve and he's not far wrong. See them early.

TUESDAY

LEO SAYER, Auditorium, Grimsby. Who says Leo (below), can only do stadium gigs? Grimsby auditorium lifts its roof one more time for Sussex's finest haircut.

WEDNESDAY

EARL BRUTUS, Victoria Inn, Derby. Another traditional alehouse yields to the power of London's only Japanese-fronted rock band.

THURSDAY

SPACE, Octagon, Sheffield. Liverpool beat combo with wacky lyrics prepare to do baffle with the plain speaking folk of Yorkshire.

FRIDAY

ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, Academy, Brixton. Brixton hosts the night of the long overcoats as the Eighties warlords keep the comeback on the road.

SATURDAY

SPICE TOURS, S.E.C.C., Glasgow. Mel B, Mel C, Victoria, Geri and Emma open their UK tour in fine style. Remember those ear plugs, mums - so you can keep the wailing (from the crowd) at bay.
