Police dismay as Davies changes story again

DISGRACED MP Ron Davies has been re-interviewed by police - and changed his story again.

Davies drove himself to Brixton Police Station on Tuesday afternoon and then returned to Wales.

Now detectives are worried about progressing further in the case because the former Welsh Secretary is proving such an unreliable witness.

A Brixton police source said: "He is being so pigheaded and obnoxious.

"Allegations have been put to him time and time again, but he remains stubborn and point-blank refuses to elaborate."

In this "final meeting" with detectives, Davies again vehemently denied knowing the man accused of robbing him.

But he did make some minor changes to his second statement.

Davies now says the events of October 26 started half an hour earlier than he originally claimed and that his car had been parked on a different street.

But he has refused to expand further, or to give precise details of what happened.

A police source said: "Detectives are quite frankly losing interest in the case.

"He has now been given another opportunity to tell the full story but has declined.

"The guys on the case are really at their wits' end."

Meanwhile Labour Party leaders in Wales are talking to the three candidates for the top job in the Welsh Assembly in a bid to head off a damaging power struggle.

Anita Gale, general secretary of the Wales Labour Party, said she plans to see Welsh Secretary Alun Michael, MP Rhodri Morgan and Euro MP Wayne David before Monday's meeting of the Welsh Party Executive.
