Football: FA Cup: David is a Goaliath

JUBILANT Doncaster player-boss Ian Snodin hailed his conquering heroes after they pulled off an FA Cup shocker at fast-sinking Southend.

There was nothing fortunate about Doncaster's victory - they could easily have been 2-0 up before David Penney's golden 12th-minute strike.

"A tremendous result and we deserved it for the way we battled from the word go," said Snodin whose side is rock bottom of the Conference with only two wins all season.

"In truth, we are in a false position in the league but hopefully a win like this will provide the impetus we need to quickly climb up the table. We got off to a fast start today and never looked back.

"Steve Nicol summed up our performance - he was magnificant, showed all his experience and led by a superb example."

Indeed, former Liverpool stalwart Nicol, 37, was the rock at the back on which most Southend attacks floundered.
