BURY manager Andy Preece was disappointed with new striker Jon Newby as his team came away with nothing to show despite a hard- working display.

Pacy Newby was snapped up on deadline day from Liverpool for a bargain pounds 100,000 after impressing after a loan spell.

But Newby will want to forget the two chances he missed before Bournemouth scored their winner.

Seizing on a bad back pass from Eddie Howe, Newby could only shoot straight at goalkeeper Gareth Stewart.

Then Newby failed again to get his shot on target when he was played clear by Nick Daws but shot over the bar as Stewart advanced.

Preece said: "Before Bournemouth scored we had three good chances and I would have backed Newby to take two of them."

Th only goal came when Jermaine Defoe scored with a shot which goalkeeper Paddy Kenny took the pace off but could not keep out.
