Match of the Day

Sunday Mirror, Sep 29, 2002 by LOUISE HOGAN

IRELAND'S most glamourous news girl was making her own headlines yesterday when she tied the knot.

TV3 news anchorwoman Grainne, 28, wed the telly station's sports editor Stephen Cullinane in a private ceremony in front of 200 family and friends in Spiddal, Co Galway.

Grainne is used to working to deadlines but kept her man waiting at the altar for 15 minutes before the hour-long ceremony.

The wedding ceremony was spoken in a mix of Irish and English and Grainne's sister S'le, who is also a TV presenter with TG4, sang.

A friend at the wedding said: "The whole of Spiddal turned out to see her."

Her father Ma'rt'n gave her away and her mother was beautifully dressed in an ivory suit.

Grainne's nine-year-old son Conall, from a previous relationship, was a junior groomsman.

The bride walked down the aisle in her dream designer wedding dress - which she spotted surfing the internet.

When Grainne was picking up the bridesmaid dresses she mentioned the dress, by American designer Romona Keveza, to Eileen Boulger who owns the dress shop in Oughterard Co Galway.

A close friend said: "Just a couple of weeks later Eileen had a sample of the dress in the shop."

The wedding reception was held in the plush Ardilaun House Hotel in Galway before the couple jetted off to Bali on their honeymoon.

Many friends from TV3 attended including presenters Alan Cantwell, Colette Fitzpatrick and weatherman Martin King.SMOOCH: Sealed with a kiss
