Football: City line up Luke move

CARDIFF owner Sam Hammam is set to boost his Bluebirds' flagging promotion push with a four-player swoop in the transfer market.

Hammam has sanctioned Lennie Lawrence to snap up Manchester United winger Luke Chadwick plus a trio of Welshman - Fulham defender Andy Melville, Huddersfield right back Steve Jenkins and Charlton midfielder John Robinson.

Chadwick, 22, arrived at Ninian Park for secret talks yesterday. Lawrence wants the player initially on a four-month loan with a view to a permanent pounds 2m switch this summer - a club record.

Lawrence said: "I can't deny there is an interest in all four names mentioned."

Melville opened the door for Cardiff last night saying: "I think it's common knowledge I've been disappointed with the new contract Fulham have offered me."

Melville would be borrowed, but then offered a two-year deal worth over pounds 500,000 with bonuses added.

A City source said: "That type of arrangement would also be given to Robinson and Jenkins, the contract amounts varying on each man's experience and situation."
