FOOD: TRIED & TESTED SMOOTH PEANUT BUTTER

Sunday Mirror,  Nov 14, 2004  by Rhiannon Vivian

ASDA Smooth Peanut Butter (88p for 340g)

Soft and gunky. Saltier than the rest, but still a nice taste. Only downside is that it's really quite tacky and clings to the top of your mouth - not too pleasant.

7/10

Sainsbury's Smooth Peanut Butter (88p for 340g)

Globby and gunky in texture. A very pleasant mild taste with no hint of sweetness. The best, if you think of peanut butter as a savoury spread.

8/10

Skippy Smooth Peanut Butter (85p for 340g)

Very sweet with a chocolatey undertone. It's an American brand and tastes like it was designed with a sweet accompaniment in mind (as in peanut butter and jelly sandwich). Really delicious - just not very savoury.

9/10

Somerfield Smooth Peanut Butter (74p for 340g)

Quite gluey in texture, but solid too (I had to dig a bit with the knife so it's not the best for spreading). A reasonable flavour though - not excessively salty or sugary.

7/10

Sun-Pat Smooth Peanut Butter (pounds 1.39p for 454g)

Very sticky with a slight crunch in it despite being smooth. A little bit greasy, but has a good taste. Easily spreadable and not too salty.

7/10

Tesco Organic Smooth Peanut Butter (pounds 1.29 for 227g)

Smooth, but quite thick and sticky. Not that easy to spread. Organic is good, but while it tastes nice and nutty, it's mild to the point of being on the bland side. Good if you don't like an overpowering flavour.

6/10
