POSH and Becks splashed out a staggering pounds 20,000 on a giant bottle of champagne during their high-profile holiday in St Tropez.

They asked for the biggest and most expensive bottle of bubbly available on a night out at an A-list celebrity haunt.

Bemused clubbers at Les Caves du Roy looked on as the music stopped and the lights went down.

Then the theme from Star Wars started playing as a team of waiters carried in a methuselah of Cristal champagne - the equivalent of 12 pints - on a silver tray complete with sparklers.

A fellow guest said: "It was very amusing as Posh and Becks were going on about how they didn't want a big fuss.

"But they quickly became the centre of attention when they ordered the champagne.

"It was obvious judging from the big smiles on their faces that Posh and Becks were loving every minute of it as staff were making such a fuss over them. They were acting just like Puff Daddy. Like Posh and Becks, Puffy loves all the attention and always orders a methuselah to share out with friends when he goes to the club. Posh and Becks did the same."

The exclusive South of France club, which is part of the luxury Le Byblos hotel, is popular with the likes of Naomi Campbell, Jack Nicholson, George Clooney and Bruce Willis.

Even the cheapest bottle of champagne costs pounds 400 and it's a club tradition to dim the lights when a guest orders the methuselah of Cristal.

Posh and Becks paid pounds 1,115-a-night for their suite at Le Byblos.

By day, the scantily-clad couple ensured they were the centre of attention by putting on a display of affection on the crowded beach.

England skipper David, 30, showed off his six-pack in a pair of skimpy Speedos and a pair of floral Bermudas. Posh, 31, left little to the imagination in a plunging beach top.

According to one insider, the sunshine break has allowed the couple - who flew back to attend a wedding in Herts yesterday - to rekindle their romance.

Their marriage has been rocked by allegations that Becks had been unfaithful to Victoria with his former PA Rebecca Loos and beautician Dannielle Heath.
