Superbikes: Moore misery for top Britton

TOP Ulster road racer Richard Britton was recovering yesterday from a body blow which has left him without Superbike Hondas for the Ulster Grand Prix in two weeks.
Britton has been riding Hondas all season, but was told by his sponsor Des Moore that because he had been racing Yamahas in recent Irish meetings, he would no longer have Honda GB machines.
Moore added: "I will draft in another rider to link up with my Hondas at next week's Mid-Antrim '150' road race and after that we'll see how we go."
Britton said: "I've never signed a contract for Honda this year and I was under the impression that I could ride any machines I liked.

"The whole boil burst between Des and me when I rode a supersport Yamaha at the Athlone meeting a fortnight ago.
"And I continued to ride the bike last week at Kells.
"The reason was I felt my supersport Honda would not be suitable for the Athlone races.
"I can understand Des is a bit peeved and I just have to figure out for myself what I'm going to do." Britton was due to race today in an Irish Championship meeting in Tipperary, but no Superbike classes were on the card so Britton didn't have a problem.
He said: "I'm just riding my Yamahas in the smaller class.
Next Saturday, though, at the Mid-Antrim meet Britton will have to scour around for a sponsor and for machines but the real problem is his race against time for the Ulster GP.
Britton said: "I'm confident I can link up with an alternative sponsor and machinery. But it will be touch and go."
